Why do British people like Kylie Minogue so much?

To Americans, she's just a generic, forgettable, marginally attractive pop singer with a wonky eyebrow and one semi-hit song: the tepid, mid-tempo "Can't Get You Out of My Head." But to the Brits, somehow she's a superstar with a career spanning decades. I subscribe to a British magazine and she is featured all the time. I know we have a lot of useless celebs here too, but just what is the appeal of Kylie?
