Whats Wrong with my ipod?

I have a ipod nano 5th generation. The hole where I put my earphones in is acting very wonky! When the earphones are in it still plays through the speaker and the earphones. I tried everything on the Apple website and its still messed up. Ohhh and on the website they said that that was the most common problem!
