Windows 7 sound stuttering after changing settings ? How to stop that and improve quality ?

I changed my sound settings for the head phones to improve quality (changed it to 24 bit, 96,000 Hz)... now the sounds r stuttering.. then i changed it back to 16 bit 44,100 Hz but still its stuttering.. how to stop it from stuttering ?
